Debra Morningstar has been a
professional storyteller
for over 23 years. In fact, performing has been part of
her life since she can remember. She recalls a day when
her third grade teacher told Debra's mother that her
daughter was a "teller of TALL TALES!" From acting in
high school plays to community theatre, as a young adult
Debra found herself doing both local and regional TV and
radio commercials.
In later years, Debra pursued a social work degree where
she committed herself to advocating on behalf of Native
Americans. She believes she has now come "full circle"
as she uses story and song to touch the hearts of people
everywhere!
Today, she weaves tribal stories and drumming into an
entertaining and educational cultural presentation.
Debra creatively engages her audiences in an uplifting
performance using her Indian Story
Basket, hand drums,
and rattles.
In culminating her presentation, she invites children,
students, and families to join her in a Native American
Friendship
Dance.

Debra
also offers outstanding one- and two-day
Native Storyteller Residencies,
teaching about Native American culture and history.
Debra comes dressed in traditional Iroquois/Oneida
regalia (not a costume) and brings along her
extensive "traveling museum" — which includes artifacts, basketry,
corn husk dolls, arrowheads, moccasins, beadwork and
more!
It is her hope that she honors the Spirit of her
ancestors by sharing her culture through education and
storytelling. She also feels a responsibility to the
next seven generations to carry on the oral tradition —
one that she takes very seriously.
Additionally, Debra offers healing
workshops based on Ancient
Native teachings, such as The
Indian Storystick — using willow,
grapevine, leather, beads, feathers, and shells.
